Netflix Announces A Raise In It’s Most Popular Monthly Plan!

netflix

And the price is…wrong?

Netflix has announced that, effective immediately, it is raising the price of its most popular monthly streaming service plan from $8.99 to $9.99, a one dollar hike. Via the Verge:

Netflix has announced that effective immediately, it’s raising the price of its most popular plan to $9.99 per month, up from the previous monthly rate of $8.99. Existing customers don’t have to worry about paying the higher subscription until October 2016, the company said. This plan allows two simultaneous streams for each customer and also includes high definition streaming; a cheaper non-HD $7.99/month plan will remain available. Netflix justifies the price jump by saying it’s necessary to help the company “bring more great content to users.”

More great content indeed. This is to be expected of course but it is still disappointing.

Ant-Man was a more intimate Marvel movie small on epic scale but big on heart and humor. Now its getting a sequel!

This time, Wasp is joining. Titled “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” it is set to be released in July 6, 2018. It will also be the first studio picture with a heroine in the title and a main lead.

However, Ant-Man and the Wasp getting released in 2018 caused some shuffling for the movies in Phase 3. Here is Marvel’s full presser:

Finally, three untitled Marvel Studios films will premiere on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020.

The announcement of “Ant-Man and the Wasp” follows the success of “Ant-Man,” which has earned $178.5M domestically and $231.3M internationally for a global total of $409.8M. It’s the #9 film of the year domestically, and opens in its final international market, China, on October 16.

Colin Trevorrow Details Plans For The Next Jurassic Movies

raptor-bikes

In a recent podcast with JurassicCast, the director of Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow, talks about film making, Star Wars, and Jurassic World. There some interesting discussion and plans for how he envisions the sequels to Jurassic World. Highlights are below (credit goes to Demoncarnotaur from the Neogaf forums):

  • They envisioned a trilogy from the very beginning, laying the groundwork for the sequels in Jurassic World.
  • Jurassic World based on Ian Malcolms quote “I’ll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you’re using here, it didn’t require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn’t earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don’t take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you’re selling it.” hence the corporate atmosphere, product placement and more.
  • Jurassic World 2 based upon Dr. Grants quote “The world has just changed so radically, and we’re all running to catch up. Dinosaurs and man, two species separated by 65 million years of evolution have just been suddenly thrown back into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea what to expect?”
  • Departing from the parks and islands ‘We’ve seen people chased by dinosaurs on the islands, it’s time to explore new things and places’
  • It’s about extraordinary things happening in our world. References alien invasion movies and how they focus on “What would happen, what would we do?”
  • Not about going bigger in scale, but bigger with the story and further exploring our relationship with animals, dinosaurs and the impact of bringing the animals back to life.
  • References the concept of ‘Apple vs PC’ again, as in the possibility of two manufacturers of Dinosaurs in the future.
  • Claire and Owen tied deeply to the universe going forward, both have ‘opened Pandora’s Box’ in some regard and are ‘responsible’ for things to come.
  • They now have free reign in creating the films and expanding the universe. There were certain parameters for Jurassic World, but now the sky is the limit.

Looks like after the gigantic success of Jurassic World, Trevorrow and crew as free reign and a blank paycheck for the sequel. And exploring dinosaurs loose in the wild/world? Could make for a very fun ride. The sequel is still in early development but expect more news about it when it gets into full production. In the meanwhile, check out the rest of the JurassicCast podcast below:

Who Is The Brainiac In Justice Leauge? Well, Maybe Brainiac.

batman-v-superman-faceoff

Devin over at BirthMoviesDeath.com  has an interesting behind the scenes look at the tumultuous state of affairs in regards to the sequel to Man of Steel and the upcoming Justice League. According his sources, Brainiac will be the villain for the DC superhero team up. What is interesting to note is that sources told him and El Mayimbe from HeroicHollywood.com that Brainiac was the original chosen villain for the sequel to Man of Steel, which, much like Pacific Rim 2, is now put on indefinite hold:

It was [Man Of Steel’s] underperformance that led Warner Bros to scrap sequel plans and instead shove Batman into the next Superman movie, giving us Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice* rather than Man of Steel 2. Rumors have been flying – rumors I have heard as well – that Superman’s solo movies are essentially dead, that WB doesn’t want to give the Big Boy Scout another movie until they have established the entire DC Movieverse.

According to Mayimbe the sequel [to Man of Steel] would see Brainiac arriving on Earth, looking not for Superman but his cousin, Kara Zor-El, Supergirl. She was actually set up in a prequel comic that DC released that we were told was canon; in it Kara was a member of the Kryptonian ‘Explorer’s Guild,’ who had been tasked with terraforming worlds. That means she might have been out in space when the cataclysm befell Krypton.

According to HH Man of Steel 2 was always going to be a split-hero affair, but in this case it was going to spend a lot of time on Supergirl. She would get about half the screen time, and over the course of the film Brainiac would create Bizarro to hunt her down. That means Man of Steel 2 would have Supergirl, Brainiac and Bizarro – quite the Silver Age line-up. Whose neck would get snapped this time?

I trust El Mayimbe’s sources, but I suspect that a lot of this stuff is scrapped now, especially as every whisper I hear about Justice League contains the word ‘Brainiac.’ I suspect elements of this story were cannibalized for the eventual team-up as well as BvS, whose main physical threat is, I believe, a cross between traditional Bizarro and another well-known Superman villain**

Interesante how Warner Bros just ditched Superman in favor of more Batman focused film in Batman Vs. Superman: Screw You Kal El (not actual title). It seems that Warner Bros really have no clue how to make an honest good Superman film. What a pity.

Sad News For Pacific Rim Fans: Pacific Rim 2 Put On Indefinite Hold

pacrimnewfan

Looks like things are not drift compatible as Legendary, the studio that produced the original film, is having cold feet regarding the sequel. Hollywood Reporter has the write up here:

Legendary wanted to produce a sequel to del Toro’s Pacific Rim, which was made under the Warners deal and turned into one of those films that grosses a lot ($411 million worldwide) while being so costly that a follow-up isn’t a sure thing. Sources say Legendary liked that the original performed exceptionally well in China, where the company is heavily invested, but for now the project — which had been ramping up to make a release date in August 2017 — has been halted indefinitely and will be pushed back (if it gets made at all).

This does not bode well at all. Films put on indefinite hold sometimes don’t get made. Pacific Rim was a fun monster mash of a movie that hit all the right nerd buttons. It had unique creature designs, crazy mechs, rocket punches, dimensional travels, and explosive action. To see this passion project on hold is a punch in the gut. It seems like Guillermo Del Toro can never get his projects off the ground without problems and headaches. It is a pity because he is a very visual and creative director. Regardless, it doesn’t not mean that Pacific Rim 2 will never be made. Just that it is going to face hurdles. Sad.
